WRFL TO INTRODUCE THIRDS COMPETITION

The Western Region Football League will this year expand its Senior men’s competition, with the introduction of the inaugural WRFL senior Thirds competitions in 2020.

Following a recent club survey and communication between interested clubs, this season will see the introduction of the new Senior Men’s competition.

The decision comes on the back of survey results over the past three years, which demonstrated an increasing desire for a Thirds competition, with several WRFL clubs either already fielding or on the verge of fielding Thirds teams in other competitions.

As it stands, the participating clubs are as follows:

  • Albanvale
  • Altona
  • Braybrook
  • Caroline Springs
  • Point Cook
  • Wyndham Suns

The season will start the week after Easter with the home and away season running for 10 rounds.

Teams will field 16-a-side and will also have an unlimited bench. If numbers are sufficient and both competing teams agree, each team may have up to 18 players on the playing surface at any time.

Finals will run as a top 4 across three weeks and will be conducted prior to the Division 1, 2 and 3 Senior Men’s Finals.

More information regarding the competition will be released in coming weeks.
