WRFL COACH EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION

Historically, AFL Victoria’s Football Development Managers (FDM’s) have overseen Coach Accreditation including face to face courses, Seminars & Forums across the state. With a restructure of their roles, Coach Education will now be the responsibility of the leagues with AFL Victoria providing resource support etc.

Gary Brown is a Level 2 coach and has a long history in Coaching and Coach Ed and will be our Coach Education & Support Manager going forward to go with his Club Support Managers role, (Club Support/Coach Education Manager). Gary believes coaches are critical in providing a positive club environment which results in the enjoyment and thus retention of players and most importantly is the scene setter for impeccable conduct and behavior.

Gary has put together the program below for the first part of the season. These sessions are compulsory for all coaches to attend*

We have conducted a thorough review into Coaching, Coach Support and Coach Development across the WRFL , and thus, together with AFL Victoria we are increasing our investment into this extremely important area of community football. Coaches are critical in providing a positive club environment which results in the enjoyment and thus retention of players and most importantly is the scene setter for impeccable conduct and behaviour.

The development of our coaches and providing opportunities for them to progress is also at the forefront of our thinking and it’s our great pleasure to announce that we have appointed Shane Morwood as Coach Development Manager for 2022. As most would be aware, Shane played for the Collingwood FC in the drought breaking 1990 AFL Premiership team and had a wonderful 212 game career at firstly South Melbourne FC and Collingwood FC. At community level Shane has coached at the Dingley FC in the Southern FL, firstly at U/17s level and then onto the seniors. Shane retired from coaching 2 years ago after 9 seasons at the helm that produced an amazing five Senior grand finals appearances and 4 four premierships, and his legacy will live on for many years.

Shane has the innate ability to connect and develop people and to make them better as individuals and to get them to understand the impact they can all have on each other and everyone else around them. We are so pleased to have Shane on board to assist our coaches across the WRFL. Shane will be leading our Coach Developer Program in 2022, which will see him deliver “Coaching for Growth” sessions at clubs for all coaches and then provide ongoing mentoring to further support them. This process will be outlined at the Coaching Coordinator night.

CoachAFL – Coach Accreditation & Renewal

Please click here to see the guide for clubs regarding CoachAFL – Coach Registration, Accreditation and Renewal in Victoria for 2022.

This guide outlines the registration, accreditation, and renewal process for all coaches. In 2022, coaches will register and accredit via CoachAFL by completing the following:

  1. Completion of the Coaching Profile (including Coaching Role/s)
  2. Agreeance to the Coaches Code of Conduct and completion of Safe & Inclusive Coaching Module
  3. Completion of a relevant online course relevant to the coach’s profile (detailed within the attached)

Things to note:

  • All Coaches, regardless of league or club, will need to complete all three steps in the registration & accreditation workflow. Coaches will only show as registered and available for team selection in GameDay when their coaching role has been selected and their online accreditation course for 2022 has been completed
  • All Coaches will register to their community club/s via CoachAFL. Coaches must select the club/team (in the correct league) they are coaching in their Coaching Profile to be linked to their community club.

The Coach must select the ‘Victoria (Metro Leagues)’ tab from the drop-down box to find the correct league & club (See page two of this document for more information regarding league and club selection).
