VU WRFL NETBALL RESULTS – RD 14
Sunshine’s finals hopes are well and truly alive after defeating second placed Manor Lakes Storm in the Victoria University WRFL Division 4 Netball on Friday night.
The first quarter was the difference in the 36-33 victory, with the Kangaroos racing out to a four-goal lead at the first break.
The game was evenly poised for the remaining three quarters, with the Storm doing everything they can to peg back the lead, but it wasn’t enough.
Sunshine scoring a three-goal win, their seventh of the 2022 season.
Casey Smart and Brooke Ihaka were influential for Sunshine, while Storm shooter Amanda Borley was their best player, having shot 25 goals.
With two games remaining in the home and away season, Sunshine are in sixth place on the ladder and face Braybrook White and Suns Beams – two teams above them on the ladder.
They will need to win both those games if they are a chance to finish in the top four and play finals.
Suns Beams had a narrow win over Laverton White, 29-27.
The ladder-leaders overcame a slow start to overcome the Magpies to score their ninth win of the year.
Defender Christina Afoa was brilliant in the defensive third for the Suns, while in the attacking end Jessie Leaunoa proved to be pivotal in the final stages of the game.
In other Division 4 games, Braybrook White defeated Lakers Black by five goals and North Footscray Red Devils scored their second straight win, defeating Glen Orden Hawks 1 51-19.
