TRIO SET FOR AFLW DRAFT

Three WRFL junior stars will potentially realise their dream of playing in the AFLW competition tomorrow night.

Draft hopefuls Laura Elliott (Point Cook Centrals & Werribee Districts), Krystal Russell (Yarraville Seddon Eagles) and Steph Asciak (Caroline Springs) are all a chance to get listed at an AFLW club.

The talented trio played in the Western Jets’ historic NAB League Girls premiership earlier this season and have been touted as potential draftees.

Elliott has had an impressive year to date, having been named as an All-Australian after playing in the National Championships.

The talented defender began playing footy with Point Cook Centrals before going to Werribee Districts. She represented the WRFL at Junior Interleague in 2019, also winning the Best Player award for her efforts across the two games.

Russell, the hero of the NAB League Girls Grand Final, kicked the winning goal in the dying seconds to put the Jets in-front, ultimately winning the game.

The prolific ruck has been a standout for the Jets over the past two years – averaging 20 hit-outs a game.

The Yarraville Seddon Eagles star has also played seven games in the 2022 Victoria University Polytechnic Under 18 Girls competition.

Asciak played alongside Elliott at the NAB AFLW Championships earlier this year and has also played at VFLW level with Essendon.

The Caroline Springs young gun has been described as a readymade talent having averaged 16 disposals and 6 tackles a game in the NAB League competition.
