ROOSTERS READY TO RUMBLE

WEST Footscray is one of 12 WRFL clubs that is expected to field a Senior Women’s team in next year’s inaugural competition.

Like many others clubs in the region, the Roosters have been busy recruiting players for their new team.

Team Manager Jan Hindson said the club began their recruiting process in September and to their delight, the club had a positive reaction from the community.

“The process has been quite easy, with full commitment from the Club President and Executive, encouraging the founding women to promote and explore interest in the community in their vision to create a women’s team,” she said.

“The process to date is very positive.

“Each week we have had numbers from 10 to 25 on the training track. All seem committed and are working extremely hard on skill levels, kicking, handball, drills and tackling and having a great time.”

Jerome Currie has been appointed West Footscray’s Senior Women’s coach.

Hindson said pre-season training was currently focused on developing the skills of players.

“Jerome is engaging several senior players to help develop skills, including Dave Watson who will work together to develop skill sets in defence, attack, ruck, disposal, tackling and protection.”

Hindson said their goals for 2018 was simple, to enjoy the footy, improve their skills and have fun.
