By CONNOR PAIN

A strong second half performance was the difference for Werribee Districts as they booted 13 goals to the Eagles’ three to score its third win of the TIV Division 1 season.

Werribee Districts started strongly in the opening quarter but to the Eagles’ credit, fought back in the second quarter to trail by just four-points heading into half-time.

The comeback was short lived as Chris Gilham’s men came out firing in the second half, running out winners by 69-points.

Gavin Donnon, Trent Lee and Chris Molivas were among the best on ground for the home side, while Dillon Viojo-Rainbow played his best game of the year.

Werribee sit in sixth place on the TIV Division 1 ladder as they stay in touch with the top five as they head into Round 8 clash with Sunshine.

Brian Lake’s eight goals helped Caroline Springs cruise to a 60-point triumph against Sunshine.

The Lakers trailed early but were rarely troubled after the first break, nine majors in the second half shoring up the 14.20. (104) to 6.8. (44) win.

The ladder-leader’s quest for eight consecutive wins continues this week against Point Cook.

A first quarter blitz from Altona proved too much for Hoppers Crossing to overcome, the Vikings winning by 26-points.

Joshua Bench continued his great form with a best-on ground performance.

2018 Barry Priest medallist Chris Endres returned to the Warriors after playing football in Queensland in 2021.

Deer Park did enough to hold off a gallant St Albans. The final score was 10.13. (73) to 7.9. (51).

Todd Elton’s three majors brought his season tally to 21 with Wade Lees starring in the 22-point win.

Spotswood were forced to come from behind in its 9.7. (61) to 5.6. (36) win against Point Cook.

Four goals in the second quarter was the perfect springboard for the Woodsmen who trailed by two points after the first quarter, holding off the Bulldogs for the 25-point triumph.

Jack Irvine and James Cleaver were Spotswood’s best, while for Point Cook, Max Rouvray continued his good form.

In Round 8, Altona will go head-to-head with Deer Park, in what will be the match of the round in TIV Division 1.

Caroline Springs host Point Cook, Spotswood will play Hoppers Crossing, Sunshine and Werribee Districts will go head-to-head and in the final match of the Round, St Albans will play the Yarraville Seddon Eagles – with both sides desperate for a win.
