FINAL FOUR READY TO FIRE
The top four teams in the Victoria University WRFL Netball Competition will head into this Friday’s semi-finals full of confidence, with Point Cook Blue, North Footscray Devils, Braybrook Red and Spotswood all scoring wins in the final round of the regular season.
The quartet have been in great form throughout the season and will look to make their mark on finals this Friday.
Ladder leaders, Point Cook Blue scored a 61 to 22 victory over Braybrook Black.
Point Cook Blue started strongly, scoring 22 goals to two in the opening quarter. The scored 15 goals in the second quarter, 11 goals in the third and another 13 goals in the fourth term.
Point Cook has been the most attaching team of the competition, having scored 501 goals over 10 games. They have also been strong in defence, with only 190 goals scored against them.
North Footscray Devils are also in red-hot form, having scored a 20 goal win over Albion.
Leader Megan Murphy was hard to stop in the goal ring, scoring 29 goals.
The Devils, who finished in second spot, on the ladder, will go into Friday’s match with Point Cook Blue confident, as they defeated them earlier this season.
Braybrook Red also scored a 19 goal win over Sunshine.
Their third quarter was the difference, they scored 11 goals to Sunshine’s 1. Heading into the final quarter they had an unassailable 28 to 12 lead.
Defenders Jennifer Pucek and Taylah Chamra worked well. The duo rebounded strongly from defence.
A strong second half helped secure Spotswood’s seventh win of the season.
Only two goals separated Spotswood and the North Footscray Red Devils at the half, but they managed to score 26 goals to 14.
In the final match of the round, Point Cook Red defeated Glen Orden 42 to 21.
