FAST START HELPS SUNSHINE

Sunshine scored its second win of the Victoria University WRFL Netball competition on Friday, defeating Braybrook Black by 10 goals.

Sunshine led at every change in the Round 7 match.

It was their fast start in the opening quarter that was the difference. Casey Smart and Charlee Pearce combined for 11 goals in the first term for the Kangaroos.

Smart shot a further 15 goals in the remaining three quarters, which helped secure Sunshine’s second victory of the inaugural season.

Jessie Clayton and Kellie-Anne Merritt fought gallantly in defence for Braybrook Black.

Braybrook Black will look to rebound from the loss this Friday, when they take on Spotswood, who had the bye.

The North Footscray Devils continue to impress in 2018, the second placed team scored their sixth win of the year on Friday, defeating Glen Orden 55 to 11.

The Devils scored 31 goals to 4 in the first half, with Megan Murphy and Ellie Johnson teaming up well in goals.

The Devils stuck with the same seven players in the game, giving the team some great consistency over the four quarters.

North Footscray Devils will now take on the North Footscray Red Devils in a showdown on Friday night.

The Red Devils scored its second straight victory, defeating Point Cook Red by five goals.

The Red Devils led by eight goals at three quarter time and looked like running away with the game in the final 12 minutes, but it wasn’t that convincing.

Point Cook Red outscored their opponents in the final term, but couldn’t quite bridge the gap, losing 27 to 22.

Braybrook Red also got their name on the winners list, having defeated Albion Cattaz by 53 goals.

Abbey Tamkinsa shot 36 goals in the win. Defenders Taylah and Allison Petras also played well, restricting Albion Cattaz to just 11 goals for the match.

In the final game of the round, ladder-leaders Point Cook Blue defeated Albion 48 to 14.
