FALCONS ON TOP, NEWPORT READY FOR FINALS

By CONNOR PAIN

Wyndhamvale used a dominant second quarter performance to knock Parkside off top spot on the Prestige Group Real Estate Division 2 ladder, with a 37-point win.

Both sides showed signs of rust in the first term back following another lockdown-enforced break, recording just one goal and six behinds combined. But Wyndhamvale’s four goal to zero second quarter gave them the buffer that proved to be the difference.

Parkside got moving after the main break with three goals in the third quarter, but Wyndhamvale were just too strong.

The 37-point win puts the Falcons into first place with one game remaining in the home and away season.

Parkside host Point Cook Centrals in the final round of the season and will need Albion to produce an upset against Wyndhamvale to regain top spot.

Newport’s 40-point win against West Footscray confirms its place in the finals.

The Roosters got the jump early and led but were pegged back in the second term as Newport entered the main break ahead by eight points.

A five goal to one third term all but sealed the visitor’s finals birth, as they finished the second half strongly to run out 18.11. (119) to 12.7. (79) victors.

North Footscray kicked 16 goals to three after the first quarter, turning a nine-point deficit into a 76-point thumping of Albion, Samuel Kater’s five-goal haul was the highlight.

The 19.14. (128) to 7.10. (52) win sees the Devils finish the home and away season in third place regardless of what happens in Round 16.

Daniel Rosenzweig’s six goals was the pick of Glen Orden’s dominant 20.13. (133) to 8.5. (53) demolition of Point Cook Centrals.

The Hawks had 10 individual goalkickers.
