DISTRICTS DOMINATE

By LEO MULLALY

Werribee Districts left Yarraville Oval with a strong 55-point victory over the Yarraville Seddon Eagles in the Under 18 Division 1 competition.

Jack Bonnett starred with five goals for Werribee, proving to be the dominant man in the air throughout the game.

Luke Di Mauro was a handful at ground level, showcasing his speed and finishing with four classy goals.

In the first quarter, the contest was tight, as Werribee held momentum through their run and spread off half-back.

This run and carry continued in the second, as Werribee held a 35-point lead at half-time.

After the main break, Werribee took real control of the game.

Bonnett was influential, Di Mauro was crafty on the ground and Joshua Cochrane brought a strong physical presence to the contest.

At three-quarter-time, Yarraville coach Christopher Smith remained positive, calling for his team to win the last quarter.

The Eagles were up to the task, winning the last quarter, kicking three goals to one.

An outstanding highlight for the Eagles was Zakariya El-Houli’s effort and goal from a turnover.

As Werribee switched the play, El-Houli outran his opponent to win the football, shrug the tackle and kick an impressive snap from 35 metres out.

Leo Attersall and Hamish Creswick were staunch in defence for the Eagles, while Joe Perry was a shining light in the midfield.

It was a round of comfortable wins, as an inaccurate Caroline Springs took care of Point Cook Centrals, Hoppers Crossing kicked away in the second half to claim a win over Altona, and Point Cook defeated Spotswood thanks to a Cain Wallace five-goal haul.

Next week, all eyes will be on Werribee Districts vs Hoppers Crossing, as both will be looking to keep their undefeated streak alive.

Conversely, Spotswood, Yarraville and Point Cook Centrals will be eager to grab their first win of the 2021 season.
