COBRAS WIN THRILLER

By LEO MULLALY

Albanvale has emerged victorious over Braybrook in a tight eight-point affair at Robert Bruce Oval in the Alan Mance Motors Division 3 competition.

It was a tense battle throughout, with both sides holding narrow leads at different stages of the contest.

Reece Duffield was judged best on ground, as his efforts combined with a six-goal haul for Liam Montrose were a standout for the Cobras.

Montrose has started the season in fine goal-kicking fashion, with his contribution of six adding to previous tallies of seven and eleven in the opening rounds of the 2022 season.

For the Brookers, Luke Zammit and Matthew Turcinovich were outstanding performers, with the latter slotting five goals.

Braybrook head into the bye next week and have a chance to reset following their one-two win-loss record.

The Cobras now remain undefeated to start the season as they are set to face Sunshine Heights who are also yet to receive their first loss.

Sunshine Heights enjoyed a 137-point thumping over Laverton, with Colby Blyth slotting six goals for the second consecutive week.

There were 10 different goal-scorers for the Sunshine Heights in what was a true team performance.

The Magpies move on to face North Sunshine next week, where one side will have its first win of the season.

North Sunshine were handed an 85-point loss by Tarneit, who managed to score their first victory of the 2022 competition.

Zach Thornton and Jayden Osborne both booted four majors for Tarneit, with the former awarded best on ground.

Tarneit’s Luke Timms and Benjamin Arabit also put in impressive performances.

Tarneit face their toughest challenge next week, coming up against an undefeated Suns outfit fresh off the bye.
