CLASS OF 2018 – SENIORS

WE are just days away from the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships, so it’s time we got to know the class of 2018 a little better. 

Check out the Player Profiles of all our members of the Senior Interleague Squad.

We get a little insight into what it means to them to put on the WRFL jumper, who they think is the best in the squad and their best footy advice they have been given.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s good to take the opportunity as I’m not getting younger.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My father. Helpful advice each quarter.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

No situation is ever the same. Adapt.

What has been your best footy moment?

Making rep teams.

 

Name: Kyle Galloway

Nickname: G-Train

Club: Caroline Springs

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s an honour. I really enjoy playing at the highest level I can play.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My best friend, he got me into footy. It led to me getting drafted and where I am now.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

You’re only young once – give it your all.

What has been your best footy moment?

Getting drafted to the Sydney Swans.

 

Name: Luke Goetz

Nickname: Goat

Club: Altona

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s an honour to represent the WRFL. It is a great opportunity to play with and against the best.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My Dad, because he always gives me honest feedback. If I have a poor game he will let me know. He keeps me grounded.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Harry Tanner because of his lateral movement, pace and the way he uses his skills.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Never be complacent.

What has been your best footy moment?

Winning flags because the whole team earned it. It isn’t individual and footy is a team sport.

 

Name: Liam Cavanagh

Nickname: Josh Linton’s Best friend

Club: Sunshine

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s great, I love my new friends.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Josh Linton – he is so mean that I’m scared to make mistakes.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Don’t let the ruckman kick.

What has been your best footy moment?

WRFL Interleague 2017.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Very proud to be selected.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

You’re a ruckmen, don’t kick it! Give it off.

What has been your best footy moment?

Winning the 2016 Grand Final.

Name: Nayef Hamad

Nickname: Nif

Club: Spotswood

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It means a lot.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Mum and Dad encouraging me to keep moving forward.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Nick Ryan- Plays like Nat Fyfe.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Attack the footy.

What has been your best footy moment?

Winning a Grand Final.

 

Name: Jason Cooke

Nickname: Cookie

Club: St Albans

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It means to me that all the hard work that you put in doesn’t go un-noticed.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My Dad, always there to give me advice and support me in every way.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Ben Said – can put on a show.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Train the way you play.

What has been your best footy moment?

Making the AIS as a 16-year-old and winning a Grand Final at Macedon.

Club: Yarraville Seddon Eagles

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Huge honour and an opportunity to play with the best and develop as a player.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My father.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Never turn your back on your mark.

What has been your best footy moment?

Being selected for TAC Western Jets.

 

Name: Marcus Groves

Nickname: Grovesy

Club: Point Cook

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

The opportunity to play better football.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My father- Motivation.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Effort creates opportunity.

What has been your best footy moment?

Winning Grand Finals.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Proud to represent the club.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Father.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Jase Degabriele.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Enjoy the game.

What has been your best footy moment?

Under 13’s Premiership.

 

Name: Jason Degabiele

Club: Caroline Springs

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s exciting to be able to challenge yourself alongside the league’s best players and hopefully grow as a footballer in the process.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My family. They have supported me along the way and have always given me good advice when required.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Rex Hickman works really hard and reads the game well also impacts games with his marking ability.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Never take anything for granted. Always give 110% and you will get what you deserve.

What has been your best footy moment?

Playing in premierships with close mates.

 

Name: Lachlan Tanner

Nickname: Trout

Club: Altona

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s an honour to represent the league in such a big game.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My dad gave me feedback on area’s to improve.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Have a crack – See where it takes you.

What has been your best footy moment?

Playing 15 GWS Giants Reserves games.

 

Name: Harrison Tanner

Club: Altona

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Great way to represent such a well-respected league and my home club, Altona.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

My Dad because he’s always taken me to all of my games across Australia, being from the country.

Who is the player you rate the best in the WRFL team and why?

Luke Goetz. Should be on an AFL list and works very hard.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

There is no coincidence that the best runners are the best players.

What has been your best footy moment?

Playing my first VFL game for the Richmond Footy Club.

 

Name: Mark Polycarpou

Nickname: Poly

Club: Albion

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Unreal experience.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Father- Taught me since I was young and have had a huge influence.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Hard work beats talent.

What has been your best footy moment?

Under 18’s Wimmera Interleague.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It’s an opportunity to play better football.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Dad always supported me no matter what and he kept pushing me.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Don’t give up.

What has been your best footy moment?

Running from Full Back to Full Forward. Winning club Best and Fairest.

It would be a great honour to represent the league I’ve played in my whole career.

My Dad.

Always try your best.

Winning Division 1 flag with Deer Park.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

Big honour to be chosen.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

Mum. Always took me to training and spent long hour driving.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

Do the small things well.

What has been your best footy moment?

2015 EDFL Premier Division premiership.

What does it mean to you to represent the WRFL?

It is a new opportunity.

Who has been the biggest influence on your football career and why?

The people around me. I try and make them proud.

What is the best footy advice you have been given?

One little rock can change the tide.

What has been your best footy moment?

Taking my first ever specky.
