BULLDOGS, STORM INTO GRAND FINAL

Point Cook Blue and Manor Lakes have booked their Grand Final date with their respective Division 1 and Division 2 opponents, after thrilling Preliminary Final victories on Friday night.

Point Cook Blue hung on for a one goal victory against Sunshine 1 in the Victoria University WRFL Netball Division 1 Preliminary Final.

Last year’s premiers kept their cool in the dying stages of the game to defeat a brave Sunshine team, who pushed their opponents to the final siren.

The Bulldogs raced out to a six-goal lead in the second quarter and were poised to run away with the game, but the Kangaroos pegged back the lead, ensuring we were in for a thrilling second half.

Supporters were treated to an epic final 12 minutes with the lead changing several times, but it was Point Cook who won 33-32.

Sunshine had several opportunities to win the game, with their defenders causing multiple turnovers, but the team couldn’t capitalise on their opportunities.

Sarah Magowan’s move into the goal attack position for Point Cook in the final quarter proved to be inspired, with the talented netballer providing her team with a spark in the goal ring.

In the Division 2 Preliminary Final, Manor Lakes defeated Sunshine 2 to set-up a Grand Final showdown with Spotswood Green.

Scores were level at half-time, but it was the Storm who edged ahead in the final stages of the game, securing a two-goal victory, ending Sunshine’s season.

Sunshine had one more shot on goal in comparison to Manor Lakes in the second half, but couldn’t convert their opportunities.

Manor Lakes will now play Spotswood Green in the decider. The two teams faced-off in the Second Semi Final two weeks ago, with Spotswood winning by 28-goals.
