BACK TO BASICS AT LAVERTON

Laverton coaches Scott Mizzi and Brett Kerss have both eased their respective senior teams back into footy since COVID forced the 2020 season to be cancelled.

Kerss steps up as coach of the Senior Women’s team this season after being an assistant coach in 2019.

He said this Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s season, we should expect a Laverton team that is hard working and are aiming to reach finals.

“This pre-season has been a different start considering COVID last season so we are easing into it,” Kerss said.

“We are running through all the basics and getting to know each players capacity on the ground.”

Laverton start their Senior Women’s campaign on Sunday, April 18 at 2.30pm against Wyndhamvale at Wyndhamvale South Oval.

For Mizzi, his approach to pre-season has been similar, with the group focusing on the basics as well as fitness and enjoyment.

He said the Magpies line-up will include a lot of new and young players.

“We want to be giving our young players every opportunity to play senior football and develop them into quality players for our club over the next few years,” Mizzi said.

Laverton’s first game in Division 3 will be in on Saturday, April 24 against Sunshine Heights at Laverton Park.
