ALBION SCORE TWO STRAIGHT WINS

Albion is now just a game behind fourth spot on the Victoria University WRFL Netball competition, after consecutive wins.

Albion scored a five goal win over Point Cook Red on Friday night.

They led by two goals at the first break before opening a six goal lead at half time. It was a competitive second half, but Point Cook Red couldn’t bridge the gap. The final score was 30 to 20.

Braybrook Red scored its seventh win of the season, defeating North Footscray 46 to 20.

Braybrook scored 12 goals in the first quarter, opening up a 10 goal lead at the first break. They then scored 10 goals in the second, 12 goals in the third and another 12 goals in the fourth quarter.

Alexis Climas scored 36 of Braybrook’s 46 goals, while defender Taylah Chamra put on some great defensive pressure and rebounded from the defensive third strongly.

Sunshine bounced back emphatically from their loss to Point Cook Blue last week, by defeating Albion Cattaz by 57 goals.

Sunshine’s third quarter was their most impressive. They scored 16 goals and kept their opponents scoreless.

The Kangaroos now sit in eighth place on the ladder, having won three games for the season. Meanwhile Albion Cattaz have yet to score a win in 2018.

Braybrook Black got their first win since Round 4, after defeating Glen Orden.

Braybrook Black had a string of losses, but managed to put together four consistent quarters of netball, to win 33 to 25.

The Hawks outscored Braybrook in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the result.

Aimee Mooney, Catherine Fajerman and Kellie-Ann Merritt all played well.

In the final game of the round, Point Cook Blue defeated Spotswood by 18 goals. The win sees Point Cook Blue go to the top of the ladder, having won eight games.

Point Cook Blue scored 26 goals to 11 in the first half, setting up a great lead.

It was a competitive third and fourth quarters from Spotswood, but they couldn’t close the gap.
