SHOLL DREAMS OF AFL CHANCE

By KRISTEN ALEBAKIS

St Bernard’s young gun Lachlan Sholl says it would be a dream come true if he was to get drafted by an AFL club later this year.

“I’ve loved footy my whole life, and if I was lucky enough to get an opportunity at a club come November, I would be absolutely wrapped,” he said.

The talented footballer was a part of Vic Metro’s Under 18 team and competed in the national championships last month.

Sholl said it was an honour to pull on the Big V jumper, saying he learnt a lot from the experience and was able to grow as a footballer.

He said it was great to have some familiar faces in the team.

This year’s Vic Metro team had a host of WRFL talent, including Buku Khamis, Daly Andrews, Xavier O’Halloran and Emerson Jeka.

“Coming in to the program it can be quite nerve-racking at the start, but having a number of boys in the squad who I have grown up playing against, and with, allowed for a much more comfortable transition in to the first few weeks of training,” Sholl said.

The 18-year-old had a successful junior career with St Bernard’s, he was involved six Grand Finals, winning three flags.

Sholl also represented the WRFL on two occasions, competing in the Junior Metro Championships in 2014 and 2015.

“Growing up I was very lucky to be in a number of successful St Bernard’s junior teams, so playing in, and winning Grand Finals with my best mates, were easily my greatest and most enjoyable moments as a junior,” he said.

Sholl is aligned with the Calder Cannons and will play-out the rest of the year in the TAC Cup Competition.

“One main goal which I have is to try and play as consistently as I can, at whichever level that may be. Whether it be with Calder Cannons, or my school footy team, I just want to try and make as consistent an effort and contribution as possible for my team,” he said.

The Calder Cannons take on the Murray Bushrangers at Albury Sports Ground this Sunday at 12pm.
