EAGLES WIN UNDER FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Round 9 of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition saw a return to the second half of the season after the long weekend break. Some teams were refreshed and ready to go, whilst others found themselves grappling with health and safety protocols.
Friday evening marked a milestone occasion for Division 1 side Yarraville Seddon, becoming the first senior team of their club to play at home under lights, in their hit-out against Hoppers Crossing.
It was a crisp night at Yarraville Oval, as the Eagles cut through the Warrior’s defence, locking in a 37-point victory.
Chloe Lazzaro kicked three goals, while Aisling Curley, Sierra Grieves and Gabriella Menabue each registered a major for the home side.
Division 1 Competition leaders Caroline Springs continued their dominant run on Saturday morning, winning their fifth game on the trot, and claiming revenge against Werribee Centrals after suffering a loss at their last meet.
After a hard-fought opening half, Caroline Springs went bang, running away with a 51-point win.
Nikki Perrett and Alex O’Shea were among the best for the home side, while Centurion Larrisa Renaut managed her side’s only major.
Old rivals Spotswood and Manor Lakes took to Converse Oval on Saturday night, battling it out in chilly conditions. Spotswood’s hard-at-the-ball attacking style proved too much for the Storm, with the home side claiming a 25-point victory.
Kerrie Clarke was at her impactful best, using speed and skill to bag three majors for the Wolves, whilst Abuk Akec and 50-gamer Jaimi Paten stood up under pressure for the Storm.
In Division 2, Laverton hosted the Caroline Springs side for a Friday night hit-out, with the visitors registering a 129-point victory. The Lakers controlled the game from start to finish, with Keira Whiley, Jessica Mercieca and Amelia Sevior all starring across the ground.
To round out the weekend, Wyndamvale went head-to-head against North Sunshine on Sunday afternoon, scoring a 68-point win against the Roadrunners.
Poppy Popplewell starred for the Falcons, kicking 3; whilst teammate Mariah Burton provided silver service delivery into forward line.
Braybrook/Albanvale have withdrawn from the Division 2 competition, and Point Cook were unable to field a side due to illness, meaning that West Footscray and Point Cook Centrals did not play a game this round.
