2022 LAVERTON PREVIEW

By KEL ROWE

It was a tough season for Laverton, with the side unable to crack the winners list in 2021. Playing coach Abbey Brown reflects that despite this, the team faced the challenges and finished on a high.

“With lots of changes thrown our way — we really felt like we finished on a positive note. We set ourselves goals and pushed each other to want to be better and do better all whilst having a fun time,” she said.

In 2022, Brown is ready to get back to footy and inspire others from her local community to take up the sport.

“This season we are looking forward to getting back to footy, re-grouping and just playing the game we all love. We want to continue to inspire other women in the community to become a part of our great club and learn and grow together.”

As they prepare for their opener against Braybrook/Abanvale, Brown hopes that her Magpies will continue to rise to the challenge of Season 2022 as a team. But most of all, after a year of interruptions, she’s keen to have fun and smile, enjoy each game that is played and just make the most out of the opportunities.

Laverton begins their 2022 Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Division 2 season against Braybrook/Albanvale on Saturday at 9.30am at Pennell Reserve.

Tony Jofre is hoping to create a more positive environment at Laverton in 2022.

Jofre was announced as the Magpies’ newest coach in October last year and has since been implementing a fun and positive program that he hopes will form the base for an exciting future at Laverton Park.

“It has been a great opportunity to be involved at Laverton,” he said.

“We have been working on the fundamentals, being positive and bringing positive values to the club.

“We want to build a foundation and re-build the club.”

Jofre said the club has recruited up to 12 new players for the 2022 Alan Mance Motors Division 3 competition.

“We are raring to go,” he said.

Laverton will take on Braybrook at Pennell Reserve in Round 1 of the Alan Mance Motors Division 3 competition this Saturday.
