2022 WERRIBEE DISTRICTS PREVIEW

The focus for Werribee Districts this pre-season has been getting better together, ensuring the development within the four walls of the club has been a priority for Chris Gilham, rather than looking at recruiting.

Gilham said the club has retained almost all its playing group from last season – a season in which they finished in second spot.

“We haven’t had a lot of change. We have kept everything stable – same coaches, same list – we are really happy with where we are at,” Gilham said.

“Last season we gave some young kids opportunities and they grabbed them. There aren’t any guarantees this year, but we have a really good group.

“This is our third pre-season. We have played 12 games in between. All we can control is how we prepare and how we present ourselves, so we have been narrowminded in our focus.”

Gilham said this pre-season the club has had a ‘footy first’ focus rather than completing numerous running sessions, which has been synonymous with pre-season’s gone by.

“Similar to last year, we have focused on footy and minimised the running because we have all done that in lockdown, so everything we do is footy based, and the players seem to be having fun.”

Werribee Districts open their TIV Division 1 campaign against Point Cook at Saltwater Reserve on April 2.
