SPOTSWOOD MAKE THEIR MOVE

SPOTSWOOD have moved into second spot on the Victoria University WRFL Netball ladder, after defeating Braybrook Black by 20 goals on Friday.

It was one of Spotswood’s most consistent performances of the season, scoring 12 goals in each of the first three quarters, before finishing with 11 goals.

The final score was 47 to 27.

Jane Matthews was in incredible form for Spotswood, she shot 39 goals for the game.

For Braybrook Black, they did create some good opportunities in the first quarter, but couldn’t match it with the in-form team for the entire match.

Spotswood will look to make it five wins in a row when they take on Point Cook Blue on Friday.

Point Cook Blue came from behind to defeat Sunshine in an entertaining match.

Sunshine played brilliantly in the first and second quarters, and went into half-time with a one goal advantage.

However, Point Cook Blue stepped up a notch in the second half, outscoring their opposition 26 goals to 19 to win their sixth game of the season.

Jenna Goricanec shot 36 goals in the win.

Braybrook Red currently sit on top of the ladder, having scored six wins from seven games.

They defeated Point Cook Red 28 to 17.

Playing Coach Malanie Allison played a crucial role in the midcourt for Braybrook. She ran hard all game and was a vital link between the centre and attacking thirds.

Braybrook’s defenders were rotated through positions throughout the game, all playing their roles.

North Footscray Devils and North Footscray Red Devils went head-to-head. The Red Devils fought back from being two goals down at quarter time to four goals up when the final whistle blew, winning 34 to 30.

Only a couple of goals separated the two sides for most of the match, however it was the Red Devils who made the most of the opportunities in the goal circle.

North Footscray Devils are now just one game clear of the Red Devils, who are sitting in fifth place on the ladder.

It was also a battle of Albion, with the Albion Cattaz taking on Albion in Round 8.

Albion scored 29 goals to 4 in the second half to win the match.

Nerida Muller and Lauren Thompson played well in defence for Albion.
