LADDER LOGJAM AT HALFWAY POINT

Percentage is all that separates the top three teams at the half-way point of the Victoria University WRFL Netball competition.

Point Cook Blue, North Footscray Devils and Spotswood have all won five games after six rounds of netball.

Point Cook Blue sits on top after defeating Braybrook Red by 14-goals.

Point Cook outscored Braybrook in every quarter. The combination of Holly Ellul and Jenna Goricanec in goals for Point Cook proved crucial.

The duo worked well together. However, Goricanec was the standout, she shot 22-goals.

Braybrook Red battled hard throughout the game and did keep Point Cook Blue to one of their lowest scores this season, but couldn’t match it with them on the attacking front.

Albion registered its third win of the season, downing Braybrook Black by nine goals.

Albion led at every change, Keliara Briggs and Elli Disisto combining well in goals.

The North Footscray Devils bounced back from their loss to Spotswood last week, defeating Point Cook Red 57 to 26.

The Devils came out firing in the opening quarter, opening up a 14-goal lead. Taigen Butty scored 13 goals in the first quarter.

The second quarter was more even, however the Devils again fired in the third term, scoring 10 goals to five.

Spotswood won its fourth straight game after they defeated Glen Orden by 50-goals.

Only six goals separated the two sides at quarter time, but it was one way traffic thereafter.

The final score was 63 to 13.

Defender Sasha Pell was a standout, she worked hard over four quarters and restricted Hawks’ ball movement moving forward.

The North Footscray Red Devils also kept their finals hopes alive with a win over the Albion Cattaz.

The Red Devils kept the Cattaz scoreless in the first half, while they scored 19 goals.

It was more of the same in the third and fourth quarters, with the Devils continuing to pressure the opposition.

The final score was 33 to 2.

There is a bye this weekend due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Netball will return on June 15.
