DRAGONS RISE IN DIVISION 3

By SARAH RAMANTANIS

Sunshine Heights have moved into third place on the Division 3 ladder, after defeating Laverton by 45-points at Ainsworth Reserve.

The move into third position was helped by Tarneit, who lost to Albanvale.

The Dragons are one of the in-form teams of the competition, having won their past four games.

Sunshine Heights kicked 10 goals to four after half-time, to record a 16.14. (110) to 9.11. (65) victory.

The team was led by Matthew Serafin who kicked four goals, but it was Leo Eliepa’s ball movement that earned him best on ground honours.

Elsewhere, Albanvale’s form proved too strong for Tarneit.

Determined to claim victory after their Round 5 loss against the Titans, the Cobras held strong against the blistering wind.

Holding a dominant lead at the end of each quarter, the Cobras prevailed 11. 7. (73) to 3. 7. (25).

Kym Taylor and Ricky Cameron starred for the Cobras up forward, while Liam Ryan was also consistent for the home side.

Adam Mirklis was the Titans only multiple goal kicker, booting two majors, Matthew Dettman was also among their best.

At Dempster Park, Wyndham Suns scored an outstanding 164-point win against North Sunshine.

Scoring only one point at the end of the first quarter, North Sunshine failed to overcome the slugfest conditions at their home ground.

Dean Cachia and Brandon Donald kicked a combined ten goals for the Suns, leading them to victory.

Brody Lane scored the Roadrunners only goal of the match, Anthony Ryan was also among the best.

After a disappointing loss against Sunshine Heights last week, the Brookers were hoping for a victory against top-team Glen Orden at Heathdale Oval.

The Hawks defence remained too strong for the visiting team, as the 38-point victory sees them maintain their position on top of the Division 3 ladder.
