COACH OF THE MONTH – JUNE

The AFL Victoria – WRFL “Coach of the Month” in the Junior, Youth and Senior Age Groups for June 2018 have been announced.

This award recognizes some of the great work being done by local coaches in the Western region community and reinforces the importance of good Coaching in local football, schools and Auskick.

JUNIOR: Tony Modola (Williamstown Juniors)  

Tony has had the task of teaching a group that is predominately first year footballers, and has dedicated his time and effort to communicate effectively with every player. He provides positive feedback, and treats all players with respect. Some of the feedback from parents that have been given about Tony, include: 1. He has made the first year of footy a memorable one  2. He has no favourites and every player is treated with respect  3. He never has a bad word to say, he is all about the positives 4. He makes the training and games fun for all (kids and parents)  5. He has created an environment that allows the players to just have fun whilst learning  6. He is teaching the players the right way to play.

YOUTH: Shaun Rainer (Caroline Springs)

Shaun has put forward a very calm, positive and technical approach to Coaching the girls. He has implemented a Skill Development program to bring out the best in the girls and after guiding the under 12 team to a premiership win in 2017, Shaun has gradually improved each individual players skill set and has focused on ensuring they are enjoying the game this year. Shaun has ensured all players have respect for the officials, parents and other team members.

SENIOR: Theo Theodorou (Spotswood)

Theo has had a significant focus on skill development through his Coaching, and has worked closely with the Senior Women’s players to build trust with the Group. Theo has taught the girls to enjoy the game whilst ensuring they are improving their skills and challenging themselves!

Congratulations Tony, Shaun and Theo  – very well deserved winners amongst a plethora of outstanding nominations.

All winning Coaches will receive an AFL Store Voucher for their efforts, and go in for nomination for the 2018 Coach of the Year.
