CLUBS ANNOUNCE NEW COACHES

As the 2018 season wraps, WRFL clubs are already looking ahead to next season, with several teams appointing new coaches for 2019. See below a list of the new coaches:

Sunshine

The Sunshine Football Club has announced Adam Contessa as their new senior coach for 2019.

He comes to the club after coaching Pascoe Vale in the Essendon District Football League for the past four seasons. He also coached Airport West between 2012 and 2014.

Contessa played 45 games with the Western Bulldogs between 1997 and 2001.

Albanvale

The Cobras have announced Andrew Bryson will coach the senior side in 2019.

Bryson is no stranger to Albanvale, having begun his junior career at Robert Bruce Reserve.

He has also coached several junior sides at Albanvale, including coaching the Under 16 side to Premiership victory in 2000.

Bryson has since played most of his senior football with the Deer Park Football Club. There he won the 2008 Best and Fairest and was a member of their 2009 Premiership team.

Albion

The Cats have announced Steve Lowerson as its new senior coach, taking the reins from Chris O’Keefe.

Lowerson was the senior assistant coach and Under 15’s coach at Albion this year.

He has had a long and distinguished career in the west, having captained Hoppers Crossing as well as being named in the Team of the Year in 1991.

Manor Lakes

Dion Lawson has been named as the senior coach of the Manor Lakes Football Club.

Lawson has an impressive football CV, having won several Best and Fairest awards as well as named in the GDFL and WRFL Teams of the Year.

He joins the Storm after playing with Apollo Bay this season and previous to that with Werribee Centrals in the GDFL.

St Albans

St Albans has announced Perry Meka as its new Senior Coach.

Meka was the Development Coach at the Northern Blues in the VFL for the past two seasons and previous to that coached Labrador in the QAFL to back-to-back flags.

He has played more than 500 games of country footy and has kicked more than 2000 goals.

Wyndhamvale

The Wyndhamvale Football Club has announced Chris Moreland as their new senior coach for the next two seasons.

Moreland comes to the Falcons with a wealth of experience, including Geelong VFL, Vic Country and Interleague representation.

Spending the past six years playing for Geelong West Giants in the GFL, Moreland captained from 2015 to 2017, and recently was a Senior Playing Assistant Coach. Prior to the Giants, he was at Bell Post Hill Football Club, where he was a premiership captain, and won three flags.
